Hello, my name is Yoshi and I am a native Japanese tutor of “Hong Kong Japanese Tutor”. Although teaching Japanese has never been my main line of business, I have always enjoyed teaching Japanese to my friends and students (as a part-time tutor). Japanese Teaching Qualifications and Experience

I have started teaching Japanese as a part-time Japanese tutor about 1.5 year ago. Although my experience as a tutor seems rather short, I am very passionate and find joy in teaching and sharing what I know.

Japanese Teaching Approach

Normally, I would plan my courses based on the students’ interests, their requests, or subjects that they feel difficult to deal with while taking into consideration of their Japanese language ability. I also believe that “roleplaying” and “stories/examples from my own experience” would make the learning more active and fun.

YOSHI先生へ「ような」と「みたいな」と「ぽい」の違いについて教えていただけないでしょうか?

YOSHI先生’s Answer:
この3つは比喩の意味を表し、ほぼ同じ意味です。「～みたいな～」と「～ぽい～」は「～ような～」の口語表現になります。
また、3つとも名詞の後に続きますが、「～ような～」の場合のみ、名詞との間に「の」が入ります。

＜例＞
綿菓子みたいな雲
綿菓子っぽい雲
綿菓子のような雲

更に、「～ぽい～」は「～みたいな～」より、そして「～みたいな～」は「～ような～」よりくだけた表現になるので、「～ぽい～」は通常家族や友人など親しい間柄の人と話すときに使われるケースが多いです。

YOSHI先生へ 「しっかり」と「はっきり」と「きちんと」の違いについて説明してくれませんか?

YOSHI先生’s Answer:
「しっかり」は、堅実で揺るぎないさまを表す単語で、物事の内容や過程を評価する場合に使われます。
「はっきり」は、物事や人の言動が明瞭・明確で他のものから明らかに区別できるさまを表す単語です。
「きちんと」は、乱れがなく整然としているさまを表す単語で、その評価が規則性や習慣に基づいている場合が多いです。

言語と文化の関係は切っても切れないものです。ですので、日本語を勉強する上で、日本の文化を理解することは非常に大切だと思います。日本文化は、一般にHigh Context Cultureと言われている国々の文化と比べても、更に顕著なものだと思います。日本語には、「空気を読む」、「相手の気持ちを察する」、「行間を読む」、「相手の気持ちを汲み取る」、「阿吽の呼吸」等、人が発した言葉の裏側に別の意味が隠れている（もしくは、何も言わないことで気持ちを表現する）場合があり、それを考慮した返答・対応が求められる場面が多々あります。これはケースバイケースではありますが、相手を思い遣る、相手の立場に立って考える、または謙虚で慎ましくいることを美徳とする日本文化の特徴の表れで、自分の思っていることをはっきりと言葉にして伝えるLow Context Cultureに慣れ親しんでいる方々にとっては、少し理解に苦しむ部分かもしれません。しかし、生の日本語を習得するにあたっては、こういった文化的要素を理解することは必要不可欠ですし、同時に日本語を学ぶ面白みでもあるのかと思います。
