Hi everyone! I’m Lisa, a qualified native Japanese teacher with the certificate of Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test. For over 12 years, I have taught as a private tutor as well as a schoolteacher and offered a choice of course for everyone- from young children to the elderly, complete beginner to advanced examination candidate.

Besides teaching Japanese, I’ve also gained practical experience in the education, finance, and retail industries while working for a governmental ministry and private companies. These experiences help me teach business Japanese as well as Japanese business manners.
I passed the Secretarial Skill Proficiency Test. This examination is to prove that I have indispensable knowledge for business in Japan, such as common sense, how to use honorifics, telephone answering and writing business documents.

I’m fluent in English and Standard Japanese with a fair level of Cantonese. I will use them efficiently for students’ better understanding of my lessons.

I am available for both Face-to-Face and Online lessons. Please choose the one you like.

My lessons are students-oriented, and all my lessons are tailor-made based on the aims, interests, and Japanese levels of each student with fun! Textbooks are always good friends for learners, but I also use many relevant visual aids such as songs, picture cards, photos, or videos to enhance students’ interests. My students especially love my Free Talk lessons as I introduce the latest news/trends and trendy words which are not written in textbooks.

Japanese Teaching Experiences and Qualification

With the certificate of Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test(日本語教育能力試験), I promise you to offer qualified Japanese lessons.

I have over 12 years Japanese class teaching experiences at a language school and private Japanese lessons.

I have taught many students with different nationalities and age groups (from primary school students to the elderly) and with different levels (from complete beginner to advanced examination candidate).

In my JLPT preparation class, most of the students successfully passed JLPT/ N2, N3, N4, and N5.
With the certificate of the Secretarial Skill Proficiency Test(秘書技能検定試験), I can teach you indispensable knowledge for business in Japan, such as common sense, how to use honorifics, telephone answering and writing business documents.

Currently I offer business Japanese lessons to a company executive to blush up her Japanese language ability and Japanese business manners.

Japanese Teaching Approach

My lessons are students-oriented, and all my lessons are tailor-made based on the aims, interests, and Japanese levels of each student with FUN.

I introduce the latest news/trends in Japan and Japanese trendy words which are not written in textbooks in my lessons.

Basically, I use textbooks with relevant supplementary materials, especially visual aids such as songs, picture cards, photos, or videos to enhance students’ better understanding.
If you have your own preferred textbooks, please feel free to let me know. We can use them for our lessons. If you don’t know which textbook to use, I will help you choose the one suitable for you.
For Japanese conversation lessons, I will prepare the topics according to your interests. I also prepare supplementary materials if needed. During our lessons, I encourage you to talk more to brush up your speaking ability. We play the role plays to cultivate practical use.
　　

Private Japanese Lessons and Personalized Programs

教科書に沿って指導しますが、
その日のレッスントピックに応じた写真、絵カード、ビデオや音声教材を使います。
また、生徒さんがなるべく生きた日本語や文化に触れられるように、レッスンでは教科書に載っていないフレーズや豆知識を必ず盛り込むようにしています。
宿題やテストをするかどうかは、生徒さんと話し合った上で決めます。

Lisa先生へ「どうかなさいましたか？」・「いかがなさいましたか？」の使い分けについて、ご説明してください!

Lisa先生’s Answer:
どちらの表現も、「どうしましたか？」の丁寧な言い方です。

相手に対して、その人の様子や意見を丁寧に尋ねる時に使います。
例：（具合が悪そうな人に対して）顔色が悪いですね。どうかなさいましたか？

前半部分の「どうか」、「いかが」は、どちらも「どう」の丁寧な言い方です。「いかが」の方が「どうか」よりもかしこまった表現、古語的といえます。

後半部分の「なさいました」は、「しました」の丁寧な言い方です。この丁寧な言い方を「敬語」といいます。日本語には、相手に対し尊敬の意を表すために、この敬語が使われることがあります。敬語は、大きく分けて「尊敬語」、「謙譲語」、「丁寧語」の3グループあります。「しました」の尊敬語は「なさいました」と「されました」で、今回は「なさいました」が使われています。

「どうかなさいましたか？」、「いかがなさいましたか？」はいずれも相手に敬意を表した言い方であるものの、少々重苦しく感じられます。
私の個人的な意見ですが、実生活では、この2つの表現よりも「どうなさいましたか？」、「いかがされましたか？」の方が利用されていると感じます。

Lisa先生へ「そうなんですか」・「そうなんですね」の使い分けについて、ご説明してください!

Lisa先生’s Answer:
「そうなんですか」
相手の話を聞いている、または理解したことを示す時に使います。
友達など親しい相手には、「そっか」、「そうなんだ」を使うこともあります。

（例）
1)
A: 犬と猫、どちらが好きですか。
B: 犬です。
A: そうなんですか。私も犬が好きです。

2)
A：私、明日から日本に旅行に行くんだ。
B:そうなんだ！日本、楽しんできてね。

「そうですね」
話している相手の内容に同意する時に使います。
友達など親しい相手には、「そうだね」を使うこともあります。

（例）
1)
A：今日は寒いですね。
B：そうですね、とても寒いですね。

2)
A：ここのカレーライスはおいしいね。
B：そうだね、おいしいね。

Lisa先生へ 「実は」・「本当は」の使い分けについて、ご説明してください!

Lisa先生’s Answer:
「実は」
これまで相手に隠していたこと、話していなかったことを告げるときに使います。

（例）
A: ずっと言ってなかったけど、実は、私はBくんが好き。
B: ぼくも、Aさんのことが大好きだよ。
A： 本当に？嬉しい！

「本当は」
表面上の姿と、真実の姿が違うことを告げる時や、これまでついていた嘘を告げる時に使います。

（例）
1）本当は嫌いだったが、作ってくれた人に悪いので、我慢して食べた。
（表面の姿：好きな食べ物だから食べた/ 真実の姿：嫌いな食べ斧なので、食べたくなかった）

2）さっき、今日の宿題は全部したと言ったけど、本当はまだ1つもしていないんです・・・ごめんなさい。

Lisa先生’s Answer:
質問に対して肯定の返事は、日本語では「はい」と言いますが、「はい」を2回繰り返して言うと、聞き手が受ける印象が変わるって知っていましたか？

（例）
A：昨日、友達とレストランに行ったんだ。
B：はいはい。
A：そのレストランで食べたケーキ、美味しかったよ。今度一緒に食べに行こうよ。
B：はいはい。
A：私の話、ちゃんと聞いてる？（怒）
B：Aさん、どうして怒ってるの？

「はいはい」は、不満を感じていて、相手の発言をさえぎりたい場合や、真剣に話を聞かずに、適当に返事をする場合に使われます。

Bさんは、Aさんの話をきちんと聞いていたのに、怒られました。これは、Bさんが「はいはい」と返事したことで、Aさんには「私の話を真剣に聞いていない！」と思われてしまったからです。
このような誤解を避けるには、Bさんは「はい」もしくは「うん（「はい」の口語表現）」を使うといいでしょう。
