Hi, I’m Kumiko!
Language has been my passion since when I was small, and I have studied English and German at university. After I worked as a system engineer, I moved to Taiwan and lived there for 3 years, and then I spent 6 years in the United States.

Living in foreign countries was exciting and fun since I could learn about the language and culture, and also feel people’s warm heart. When I first moved to Taiwan, I could not speak any Chinese word at all, but Taiwanese people were so kind that they always tried to help me out. While I lived in Arizona, USA, thanks to the thoughtful staff at the hospital, I managed to get through pregnancy and gave birth to a boy who is now 5 years old.

When I was learning Chinese Mandarin, I become interested in my mother language Japanese, and I decided to share it. I can teach Japanese in English and Chinese Mandarin on your request. You can ask me your questions whenever you want and you can bring up any topic to your lesson. I found these are the good points about private language lesson. What and how you want to learn? こんにちは！久美子（くみこ）と申します。

小さいころから言葉が大好きで、大学では英語やドイツ語を勉強していました。その後システムエンジニアとして働いたあと、夫の仕事の関係で、台湾で３年、アメリカ合衆国で６年間過ごしました。海外生活は新しい言葉や文化、そして人のやさしさに触れることができ、とてもエキサイティングで楽しい思い出です。台湾では、はじめ全く中国語が話せませんでしたが、台湾の方々はとても親切でいつも手助けしてくれました。アメリカのアリゾナ州滞在中には、やさしい病院の方々に支えられ、出産を経験し、今は５歳の男の子がいます。

中国語を勉強する中で、自分の母語である日本語にも興味を持ち、日本語を教え始めました。ご希望に合わせて英語や中国語を使って説明することもできます。プライベートレッスンの良いところは、自分のわからないことがすぐ聞けるところ、興味のある話題で学習できることころだと思います。どんなレッスンにしたいですか？一緒に楽しいレッスンを作りましょう！

Private Japanese Lessons Teaching Style

教科書は基本的な文法がまとめてあり便利ですので、入門者の方にはいいと思います。ただし出てくる単語やシチュエーションが限られているので、学習者の方の生活や環境に合った単語や表現方法に置き換えて教えたいと思います。表や写真、ビデオも目で見てわかりやすいので使います。また一度学習したことは繰り返し次の授業でも使って、復習できるよう心がけています。

Private Japanese Lessons and Personalized Programs

I would love to make a learning plan according to the student’s requests. Every student should have different interests and learning goals, so I will listen to what and how they want to learn. If anyone needs me to show how to start learning Japanese, I can prepare a basic course plan based on a textbook while I will also try to keep them motivated through talking about their interests.

→I may be able to introduce new vocabulary and also to review what we have learned last week.

* Let’s learn something new!
→We start talking about a new grammar item, Chinese characters or any topic you want to talk about. We may follow a textbook at the beginner level, and may choose a topic from any magazine, Manga, newspaper and so on, if you are an intermediate to advanced learner.

* Sentence pattern drill.
→We will practice the new grammar and words through creating sentences as many as possible. Flashcards and Role-playing games will be helpful. It is important to imagine how you use them in your daily “real life” conversation and speak them out.

Ask Kumiko Teacher Japanese Learning Questions

Kumiko先生へ「～だったら～」と「～でしたら～」の違いについて教えていただけないでしょうか?

Kumiko先生’s Answer:
1. 雨でしたら、車で伺います。
2. 雨だったら、車で行きます。
3. 雨だったら、車で行くよ。

1は仕事上の相手と話すときのフォーマルな言い方。
3は友達や家族と話すときのカジュアルな言い方。
2は一般的に丁寧に話すとき。

Kumiko先生へ「～に～」と「～へ～」と「～まで～」の違いについて説明してくれませんか?

Kumiko先生’s Answer:
・目的地を表す場合、どれもOK。ただし歩く、走るなどの動作を表すときは「まで」が良い。
〇駅に行く 〇駅へ行く 〇駅まで行く
？駅に歩く ？駅へ歩く 〇駅まで歩く

・乗り物で行き先を伝えるときは「まで」を使うことが多い。
〇金閣寺まで行きますか？（バスの運転手さんにたずねる）
〇京都タワーまでお願いします。（タクシーの運転手さんに行き先を伝える）

・くっつく場合は「に」
〇ノートにシールを貼る ×ノートへシールを貼る

・慣用的に決まっている場合もある。
〇おふろに入る ×おふろへ入る

Kumiko先生へ「は」と「が」の違いについて説明してくれませんか?

Kumiko先生’s Answer:
1. 「は」はテーマやトピックを表す。
A: 好きな食べものは何ですか？←好きな食べ物がテーマ。
B:（好きな食べ物は）みかんです。

2. 「は」は対比を表す。
みかんは好きです。←みかん以外は好きではない。

3. 疑問詞や、新しい情報が主語の場合は「が」を使う。
A: どんなくだものが好きですか？
B: りんごが好きです。

あ、雨が降ってきた！（発見による新情報）
（しばらくして）
雨はまだ降っていますか？（共有している情報がテーマ）

日本文化を海外の方に向けて考えるとき、主に２つの観点があると思います。

一つ目は「伝統的な日本文化」で、着物やお寺、茶道などの文化です。これらは日本独特の自然風景とも結びついており、四季折々の景色が、着物の柄やお茶菓子などで表現されます。またわび・さびといった茶道の考え方、禅の思想などは、様々な解釈をされながらも和の心として受け入れられています。

二つ目は「ポップカルチャー」などと呼ばれるアニメ、コスプレなどの若者を中心に世界的に広まった日本の文化です。多くの日本語学習者の方が、ポケモンやドラえもんなど、世界中で放送されている日本のアニメをきっかけに日本に興味を持たれた、という印象を持っています。
