天気が寒い?
「寒い・涼しい・冷たい」は気温など温度を表すことばです。時々・気温を天気の一部だと考えて、「天気が寒い・天気が涼しい・天気が冷たい」などと使う外国人がいます。でもそれは間違いです。天気は「晴れ・雨・くもり」などの状態で、「天気がいい」のように「いい・悪い」で表します。けれども気温について言うときは、「きょうは寒いですね」「南極は一年中寒い」「涼しくて気持ちがいい」「風が冷たい」のように、具体的なものを指して表します。

日本語の助数詞(2杯か2つか)
コーヒーは2杯か2つか

ものを数えるときに使う単位の、助数詞には「(えんぴつ)1本・(車)2台・(本)3冊・・・」などたくさんあります。コーヒーはどうでしょうか?「1杯・2杯・・・」と数えます。スパゲッティは…?「1本・2本・・・」とも数えますし、料理として出てくれば「1皿・2皿・・・」と言います。それなのに…レストランでAさんがBさんの分も含めて「コーヒー2杯」と言ったらウエイトレスは、Aさんの前に2杯置くかもしれません。

2人分のつもりならふつうは「コーヒー2つ」と言います。レストランや喫茶店などで注文するときは、助数詞にこだわらずに「(1つ、2つ、のように)∼つ」を使うのです。ただ、もしもAさんが本当にコーヒーを一度に2杯飲みたければ「コーヒー2杯」と注文していいのです。
